Project Story
Netzero launched and led an afforestation campaign across all Saudi Seaports to plant 5,000 trees in each seaport, in collaboration with DHL , Amiantit, Subsea7, and more. This project is part of the Green Ports Initiative, aiming to plant over 500,000 across all ports in the Kingdom.
The vision behind this eco-friendly endeavor is not just about creating lush green havens along the coast but also addressing the environmental impact of maritime activities. By teaming up with global leaders in logistics, manufacturing, and offshore energy, the initiative is poised to make a significant dent in the carbon footprint generated by seaborne cargo.
The planting of 5,000 trees in each seaport is more than a mere act of beautification; it's a strategic move to offset emissions and enhance the overall sustainability of maritime operations. The collaboration between Saudi seaports, DHL, Amiantit, and Subsea7 underscores the importance of cross-industry partnerships in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
Our collective mission is to create dense native green spaces across 12 ports to help restore the biodiversity of the region, as well as offset the impact of land reclamation and pollution from ship exhausts containing harmful harmful hydrogen oxide. This project is inspired by the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to raise awareness on the importance of afforestation to help tackle climate change. Each Port tree planting was executed in coordination with their respective Municipality, these were King Fahad Industrial Port, Yanbu, King Abdulaziz Port Dammam, King Fahad Industrial Port Jubail.
For the first phase of the initiative, 5,000 shade and fruitful trees were planted that are suitable to the hot climate, in partnership with the health sector and education departments, engaging more than 150 volunteers from the community. The seaports projects is ongoing, and we plan to plant over ten ports in the coming year.
Impacts Beyond Carbon
Restoration and afforestation does not only have environmental impact, but also social and economic. In all of our project we strive to find the co-benefit for each tree planted on the ground.
