Project Story
The Eastern Province Green Project in partnership with Aramco and Subsea7, has helped rejuvenate arid desert area, transforming it into an important space of wilderness in an area devoid of the richness and diversity of Nature.
The tree plantation initiative commenced by planting 25,000 trees as part of the in-country sustainability plan and Saudi Green initiative.
Community engagement is at the heart of this project, as volunteers gathered and played a vital role in planting and maintenance of the trees, alongside the Saudi Ports Authority.
The location of this project was strategically chosen, as it serves as a green space for local neighbours to take time and rejoice in the beauty of nature in a vibrant and busy city. Thanks to its urban location, the project offers not only an individual experience but a communal one. In so being, we hope this space will help cultivate community bonds and become a recognised source of restorative health for humans and wildlife collectively.
Upon visiting the area, 2 years after planting, we have witnessed that the summer heatwave has had little negative impact and the baby tree saplings are growing well. Each tree species was carefully picked to provide shade and fruit to visitors. It is delightful to see each of the different species thriving alongside one another.
The Green Project has really transformed this region, bringing abundance and much needed greenery to a desolate area.
Impacts Beyond Carbon
Restoration and afforestation does not only have environmental impact, but also social and economic. In all of our project we strive to find the co-benefit for each tree planted on the ground.
